Meet LocalBot

Sam Nunn – 15 June 2024

Local anaesthetic dosing is a pretty common question in theatre and you’ll look very slick if you can answer it without pecking at your phone first.

To polish my own practice and prevent pointless pecking, I created a little robot that comes up with quiz questions for the most commonly used agents.

I call him LocalBot.

How He Works πŸ€–

LocalBot randomly picks a local anaesthetic and an imaginary patient’s weight (rounded to the nearest ten kilograms). He then works out the maximum dose and corresponding volume of local anaesthetic that you can give.

He uses the drugs and reference values in the Survival Guide.

LocalBot actually picks two agents at random and then chooses the one that you’ve historically gotten wrong more often. So, LocalBot is slightly biased towards questions that you’ll learn more from. Nice!

You check take him for a spin right here.
